Bitcoin Boom? Top U.S. Bank Invests Heavily in BTC ETFs

JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs Expand Crypto ETF Holdings

JPMorgan Reveals Nearly $1 Million in Bitcoin ETFs

JPMorgan Chase, the largest bank in the United States, has significantly increased its exposure to Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) exchange-traded funds (ETFs). According to its latest 13F filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the bank now holds nearly $1 million in Bitcoin ETFs and over $32,000 in Ethereum ETFs.

Breakdown of JPMorgan’s Crypto Investments

JPMorgan’s allocation of $984,000 in Bitcoin ETFs includes:

  • $523,000 in ProShares Bitcoin ETF (BITO)
  • $290,000 in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT)
  • $68,000 in Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB)
  • $55,000 in Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin ETF (FBTC)
  • $37,000 in Grayscale Bitcoin Trust ETF (GBTC)

For Ethereum ETFs, JPMorgan holds:

  • $23,800 in Grayscale Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHE)
  • $6,200 in iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA)
  • $2,100 in Fidelity Ethereum Fund (FETH)
  • $102 in Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust ETF (ETH)

This marks a 30% increase from May 2024, when the bank held $760,000 in Bitcoin ETFs, signaling a growing institutional appetite for digital assets.

Goldman Sachs Increases Bitcoin ETF Exposure by 88%

JPMorgan isn’t alone in its crypto expansion. Goldman Sachs has significantly increased its Bitcoin ETF holdings, now holding $1.27 billion in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT), amounting to 24,077,861 shares.

Additionally, the investment bank has disclosed a $288 million stake in Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin ETF (FBTC), with 3,530,486 shares. Compared to the previous quarter, this represents an 88% surge in IBIT holdings and a 105% increase in FBTC investments.

Crypto Market Faces Outflows Amid Interest Rate Concerns

Despite growing institutional adoption, digital asset investment products saw their first major outflows of 2025, with investors pulling $415 million from crypto funds last week. Bitcoin-based investment products, including spot ETFs, accounted for $430 million in outflows.

Federal Reserve Policy Weighs on Market Sentiment

According to CoinShares Head of Research James Butterfill, the sell-off was triggered by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s cautious stance on interest rate cuts.

“The U.S. central bank need not be in a hurry to cut rates,” Powell stated, reinforcing concerns that loose monetary policy might take longer than expected. This uncertainty has led to short-term price fluctuations in the crypto market.

Institutional Adoption Continues Despite Volatility

While Bitcoin ETFs experienced short-term outflows due to macroeconomic concerns, institutional interest remains strong. JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs’ growing investments highlight a long-term bullish outlook on Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, indicating that traditional finance is becoming increasingly intertwined with the crypto space.
